Five Reasons Android Trumps the iPhone

The excitement of a pending android phone has the mobile industry very excited.  Okay, fans of Google and gadgets are very excited.  Maybe not all the phone makers and certainly not the wireless providers.  This has prompted some jocking for platform surpremacy between different fan bases.  If it has not come right out as elbowing, certainly, friendly, maybe a low level warfare has broken out between those faithful to the iPhone and those who expect android phones to simply rock.

Androidapps has come up with their own reasons why an Android phone trumps the iPhone.  Keep in mind, no one outside of Google and its main phonemaker, HTC (maker of various phones such as the Touch).

• It is open and runs on most smartphones.
• It is an open-source operating system.
• It has Google support out of the box.
• More third party freedom.
• Allows for Unlocked Phones

There are some problems regarding the advantages Androidapps asserted here.  The potential for the platform to be splintered exists.  Also, ensuring all third party or even first party to run on all platforms maybe more difficult than Google initially thought.  However, given time (which the Android partners may not have in order to meet deadlines), all these issues should be addressed.

The public will decide soon enough.  Google and HTC has recently affirmed they will be shipping an Android phone before the end of 2008, dispelling rumors of a delay into 2009.  In the meantime, Apples and Googles comparison will likely heat up given the close relationships the two technology giants have (continue to have?).

Note:  It's no secret I am an iPhone user.  Once an Android phone comes out, I will be switching over for a long-term review for its functionality in day-to-day work.  It's fun to review and compare features in mere hours but as with some devices, it may begin to grow or start to annoying you.
