When I first saw the availability of ebooks in the iPhone App Store, I was excited. As excited as when I found out Fictionwise's ereader app available on the iPhone.
However, with these book apps, you're given a freedom to chose what you want to read and download at any given them. It's certainly not as centralized as two of the App Store's biggest reader apps, eReader and Stanza, but with the books as apps, you take with you only what you need to read with much over storage overheat.
It's not much but if you're trying to fit an extra video onto your iPhone for a trip, it just might make a different.
In an interview with Oreilly, the developer discusses with his reasons for book app developments, revenue sharing (always thought with certain books now being public domain, how he was allowed to make money off it), future features, other platforms he's developing for (Android - yipee!), and future features.
In addition, publishers and authors have contacted him about release their works as book apps. Isn't that cool? Just imagine if Steven King or all of Isaac Asimov robot books are available as book apps or a collection of books in one app.
What is unlimited the ability to bundle books by themes or authors into one app. And for you mobile warriors who are professional and semi-pro authors or just like writing because you've got a great imagination and knows the dark arts of iPhone programming, I encourage you to give it a try.
According to the interview, there are about ,1,000 book apps being downloaded a day. Talk about print your own money.
Also, do check out Stanza and eReader apps if you get a chance. I can't wait for Android versions to be released.
