Mobile Update for The Week of Sept 29 Thru Oct 3

It was a busy week but I have a feeling we may have only a couple of major events left in the year that will get us excited.


We are still waiting for Bold to land in the US and Verizon to finally release Thunder.  And we have about another month before it's too late for Apple to grace us with a new mobile surprise for this Holiday Seasons.  Macbook updates are likely but Onxo doubt we'll see groundbreaking products until Macworld if at all.  


Late Friday, we were suprised by stories about Kindle 2 trickling through the Internet.  So, maybe we can still be surprised.  


Mobile Device Update:

• Gizmodo on Bold delay at ATT.

• iPhone the biggest eBook reader ?  Depends on how you do the math.  May prompt Amazon to share data, but only if they're good.

• Macsimum News reports Macbooks account for $1 of every $3 spent on laptops.
  
• Ubergizmo on new fast Toshiba batteries.  More at Wired.
  
• Onxo reports a 128GB SSD drive is now a more affordable option at $299. 
  
• MacDaily News on app store success.  Onxo long believe mobile apps, not just Apple's app store, is a bigger than these puny conservative estimates flying around.
  
• Crunchgear on HP's new 13" laptop.  What's great about it?  $1100 with LED and a dedicated GPU.  Macbook And Viao, while I like them both, doesn't come close.  Max out the specs and you'll come out to under $2400.  That's with 8GB of RAM!
  
• Engadget on Sony's Viao AW.  RAID setup between 500GB HD and 128SSD.  NVidia GeForce 9600M GT.  It comes with Adobe Lightroom and Elements.  Good enough for most folks.  Blue-Ray.  $1700...that's right...$1700.
  
• Onxo summarizes RCR Wireless' interview with Clearwire CEO.  Tougher questions should have been asked.

• Mobility Today on firms working together on "Mobile Broadband".  Think of it as "Intel Inside" stickers.  It's all about stickers and getting manufacturers to pay to put it on your laptop or mobile devices.  Guilty parties include: Microsoft, Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, 3 Group, ECS, Ericsson, Gemalto, Orange, Qualcomm, Telefonica Europe, Telecom Italia, TeliaSonera, T-Mobile, and Vodafone, Asus.
  
• The Small Wave reports on Nokia's gotcha "Come with Music" scheme.
  
• Silicon Alley Insider reports Google and Yahoo puts their ad deal on hold.
  
• PC Magazine -  What you need to know about XOHM
  
• Yahoo News gives state of battery tech for mobile devices.
  
• Daily Wireless reports the Trans-Pacific Express, a cooperative venture between telecoms, is completed.  Links US with China, Taiwan, and South Korea.  NTT will join network later this year.  Now WAN-parties more reliable and cyber attacks more deadly.  Just kidding about the cyber attacks - sort of.
  
• RCR Wireless reports handsets and mobile devices are important to the people.  Not worried about wholesale cancellations.
  
• RCR Wireless reports wireless providers confident they'll survive economic turbulence.
